Big News from Jaipur International Airport: No Flights from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM for 90 Days Starting March 30
Jaipur International Airport to shut for 3 months from March 30 for major revamp NEW DELHI: Jaipur International Airport will shut from March 30 for three months for technical and maintenance work that will include re-carpeting of the runway, a new apron, and a new link taxiway. The work will enhance safety, efficiency and capacity. The three-month project will affect flight operations and will suspend flights daily between 9: 30 AM and 6: 00 PM. Passengers and travelers should plan accordingly.
Runway Re-carpeting: A Long-Awaited Upgrade
The major work under this project is re-carpeting of 3. 5-km long runway which has not been done for more than 10 years. The runway which is 3, 407 metres long and 45 meters wide will be resurfaced to make it smoother and safer. The re-carpeting will cover 2. 4 lakh square metres and will be carried out daily from 9: 30 AM to 6: 00 PM. Only 50-100 meters of the runway will be worked on each day.
This step is being taken to keep the flight operations unaffected as much as possible, but 15-20% of the flights are expected to be affected. Most domestic flights run early morning (6 AM – 10 AM) and late evening (6 PM – 11 PM), while international flights usually arrive late at night or early morning. Some flights might be canceled, but airlines have not issued official notifications yet. Passengers should check their flight schedules with their airlines before traveling.
New Apron and Taxiway: Boosting Airport Capacity
In addition to the runway, the airport is also constructing a new apron at Terminal 1, which will be built in place of the existing AAI residential colony. The new apron, which will be ready by late May or early June, will be connected to the runway via a new link taxiway. A small road will also be constructed to facilitate aircraft movement.
The project is part of an effort to increase flight capacity and improve airport operations. Airfield ground lighting is being re-installed with more efficient LED lights. These upgrades will not only improve the airport’s function but also make it more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Passenger Advisory: Plan Ahead for Smooth Travel
