Jaipur, February 24 2025 – The Congress workers staged a massive rally in Jaipur outside the Rajasthan Assembly, calling for a fierce political clash with its ruling BJP coalition government. Thousands of party supporters breached police barricades to demonstrate against the suspension of six Congress MLAs. The authorities erected barricades and deployed heavy police contingents to put an end to a tussle between the Congress and the ruling BJP. The comments by a BJP minister against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi exacerbated the already tense Budget Session.
Protesters Meet Barriers and Water Cannons
The protests had started in the morning. The Congress members, with top leaders guiding them, walked to the Assembly and demanded the reinstatement of the suspended MLAs, which included state Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra. The suspensions occurred on 21 February. All this followed a wild session, which was initiated by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot, who mocked, “As usual, you named the scheme after your ‘dadi’ (grandmother) Indira Gandhi.” The jab aimed directly at Rahul Gandhi. Many people saw this as an insult to the memory of Indira Gandhi, resulting in a big uproar. In the end, six of the MLAs were suspended for “gross misconduct.”
While the anti-government protesters were gathering at the Assembly, the authorities started showing teeth. Barricades were set up on main roads and a large contingent of policemen sent to prevent any entry. The moment protestors were through, there were tense moments after Congress supporters managed to force their way in as police used water cannons to disperse crowds. Wet and still at it, the protesters were chanting against the BJP, calling it a force crushing democracy; “They kick out our MLAs inside and use force to shut us up outside. This is bullying,” Tully said amid all the noise.
Assembly Deadlock Enters Fifth Day
Congress MLAs began a sit-in until Gehlot said sorry and called off the suspensions, taking the stalemate into its fifth day. Minister of parliamentary affairs Jogaram Patel found in discussions with opposition leaders today that they had not resolved the impasse. Opposition called the government’s action dictatorship, while the BJP supported the suspension and charged that the Congress was concocting the demonstration to cover up its failings. The sheer number of barricades put up and police deployed outside showed the intention of the government to crush the agitation, but this further energized Congress.
Political Tensions Grip Rajasthan
BJP is “afraid of being accountable,” said Ex-CM Ashok Gehlot, as the pretension went viral. They look really desperate, as shown by their disdain towards Indira Gandhi and suspension of MLAs. Analysts stated that the confrontation is a key clash between the two parties and has attracted national attention. While the BJP fights to maintain control over its government, Congress sees the demonstration as a chance to rally the people. With Congress promising to ramp up its campaign, the protest showed no signs of abating as darkness fell. Rajasthan is still on edge as the next phase of this political intrigue approaches, the Assembly embroiled in chaos with police and barricades dotting the streets of Jaipur.
