Celebrating Udaipur Tales International Storytelling Festival 2025

Udaipur, January 5, 2025 – Udaipur, a beautiful city often termed as the “City of Lakes”, is going to have its sixth tale International Storytelling Festival from 10 to 12 January 2025. This year promises to be richer and diversified as it brings together storytellers, music performers, and artists from all around the globe to share some tales that have woven the fabric of cultures throughout history.

The festival is known for having and brings together magic with storytelling and folk arts into the celebrated vibrant cultural event now so far attracted by an audience from all over the world visiting India. This year, the venue will be set up at the historical and architectural beauty of the city Udaipur, making it an even unique location for the arts of narration.

A Platform for Diverse Voices Udaipur Tales

Udaipur Tales prides itself particularly on its effort to encompass a broad variety of storytelling styles and traditions. The festival intends to weave together an entire tapestry of human experience through stories- from epics in ancient India to contemporary stories, from folklore of Europe to myths of Africa. Experiences comprised in this year’s offering include:

  • Discoursing International Storytellers: Popular storytellers such as Maria Hernandez, who animates the retelling of Spanish folklore, and Tshilidzi Marwala, whose telling brings to life oral traditions from South Africa.
  • Musical Performances: Music will supplement the storytelling-for example, the traditional folk music of the Rajasthani Manganiyar alongside such international acts as the harpist from Ireland and many others where stories will be woven with the magic of melodies.
  • Workshops and Interactive sessions: Participants will get the opportunity to attend workshops with experts in narrative arts, learning all the way from oral storytelling to the intricacies of digital storytelling.
  • Cultural exhibits: Along with this, there would also be an exhibit of folk art in the participating countries, which would run parallel to the festival and give a visual narrative along with the spoken ones.

Community and Education

The festival, Udaipur Tales, is not primarily an entertainment event but a very significant educational montage. It works on the same parameter with schools and colleges in Udaipur concerning students being engaged in storytelling sessions. This initiative is an attempt to carry on the tradition of oral storytelling to newer generations. This educational outreach also fits within its major mission-the recognition and rejuvenation of storytelling art in the voiceless era that has resulted from digital media.

A Celebration of Heritage

Ananya Singh, the festival director, expressed her enthusiasm by saying, “Every year we work towards not making Udaipur Tales a festival-the reality has been that this is really a celebration of our shared human heritage. Besides, this year, we are really excited to incorporate a new section on indigenous storytelling and give those silenced voices a platform.”

The sixth rendition of Udaipur Tales is so much more than that of a festival. It is much more than a conglomeration of cultures where stories reign supreme in their connecting power and healing powers; it offers an experience of what it means to see the world through a storyteller’s eyes. Visitors are invited to experience this cultural journey so that each tale, song, and painting will tell about the joys, sorrows, wisdom, and wonder of humanity.
