JNVU Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.L. Srivastava Suspended

Governor Suspends Jai Narain Vyas University Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.L. Srivastava Over Serious Allegations.

Governor Haribhau Bagde, who is also the Chancellor of Jai Narain Vyas University (JNVU) at Jodhpur, has suspended Prof. K. L. Srivastava as the Vice-Chancellor of the university with immediate effect. The order was issued after the Divisional Commissioner of Jodhpur in his investigation report prima facie confirmed serious allegations against Prof. Srivastava, including misuse of office, negligence in discharge of official duties and causing loss to the university.

The suspension has been carried out under the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of Section 11k) of the Jai Narain Vyas University Act, 1962 (as amended). The Governor’s action reflects the gravity of the charges and the need for accountability in the administration of the university.

The allegations against Prof. Srivastava were earlier reported and on December 3, 2024, an investigation committee was constituted under Section 10(2) of the Jai Narain Vyas University Act, 1962, in which the Divisional Commissioner of Jodhpur was appointed as the Chairman. The committee was directed to inquire into the allegations of misconduct and financial irregularities against the Vice-Chancellor. The committee after conducting a detailed inquiry found Prof. Srivastava guilty and he was suspended.

The allegations against Prof. Srivastava include misuse of official position, dereliction of duty, and actions causing a loss of huge amount to the university. These findings raise serious questions about JNVU’s governance and financial management under his leadership. The suspension is a necessary step to ensure transparency and accountability in the university’s administration.

The suspension of Prof Srivastava has sent shock waves among the academic community in Rajasthan. Jai Narain Vyas University, the state’s premier education institute, has been facing administrative and financial woes in recent years and the removal of its vice-chancellor will certainly have far-reaching implications for its functioning and image.

The Governor’s office said the suspension was to ensure that there was an independent and fair investigation into the allegations. It said the administration would take immediate steps to address the leadership void and ensure the seamless conduct of academic and administrative activities.

This is a reminder of the critical importance of ethical governance and accountability in higher education institutions. We hope that the suspension of Prof. Srivastava sends a clear message that those in positions of power must act with the highest standards of integrity and responsibility.

We expect to learn more as the investigation proceeds, including about the nature of the charges and losses to the university. In the meantime, academics and other stakeholders await developments in this developing story, and look forward to a resolution that upholds transparency and accountability in higher education. – News Source Rajasthan Patrika
